The Corporate Procurement Unit is responsible for setting the corporate procurement strategy, communicating policies, monitoring spend and procurement activity and putting in place corporate contracts for a range of goods and services.
The Unit is also responsible for the corporate e.procurement system

The first Borough Council to receive the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Certificate of Excellence for our procurement practice and procedures , we have also recently been shortlisted for awards recognising our work to develop capacity with local companies.

Current influencable spend is £85 millions per annum and is growing as the importance of good procurement practice has been mandated by the Council as a key tool in maintaining the Councils record of setting balanced budgets every year since 2002

A Lean Procurement programme has been adopted in conjunction with the Luton Excellence Programme to eliminate waste in processes and focus on the customer .The delivery of this programme will be a major element of our work programme in 2008/9 touching all of our suppliers and customers to a greater or lesser extent

Luton also actively participates in consortium activity with partners via the Central Buying Consortium the Office of Government Commerce and the Eastern Shires Purchasing Organisation .
